VFXTalk Challenge 301 Entry
Digital Fusion, Maya,
September 2006

This piece was done for the 301 Challenge series on VFXTalk.com.
People were given a shot of a beach with a hotel on top of a rock on the right side. The challenge then was to take the photo and bring it to life in the year 3000.
Immediately i got the idea of a stormy/rainy atmosphere and worked on it from there. I chose to create almost the entire scene in 3D, not reusing too much. The only part that's left from the original photo is the top of the hotel, of which i used the lower 2 stories as kind of a dock for my futuristic vehicles to fly into.

Software used was Photoshop for taking the original plate apart, taking textures from it. Maya was used to do all 3D elements. Compositing was done in Fusion.
Time taken was about 10days all in all, working after-hours over the whole month, doing small bits during render-breaks and on the weekends.
